Enable and Display the Age Gating

On the Start Screen creation step, you have an option to Enable and display the age gating. This gives you some control over the target age range of your intended users.

This allows you to set a minimum age limit if your game is promoting products with minimum age requirements, or has been created for a more mature audience; a maximum age limit in the case it is aimed at younger demographics; and a specified upper and lower limit in the case you're targeting a specific age demographic.

When this is enabled and users try to access your game, they will encounter a form where they need to enter their date of birth. You have control over the following elements of the user experience regarding age gating:

Title

Here you can define the title of the age gating form as it will appear to your users. Common examples include: "Age verification," or "Confirm your age to continue."

Description

This is an additional optional text field where you can expand on your title. For example, you could state: "You must be over 16-years-old to access this content."

Error Message

This is the message given to users who attempt to pass through the age gating but enter a date of birth outwith the defined age range.

Screen Background

This allows you to select an image or a video to act as the background until users have passed the age gating. This is an option for scenarios where you may not wish users outwith the desired age range to see the background of the experience.

Minimum Age

This is the minimum age a user must be to access your content, and acts as your age limit.

Maximum Age

This is the maximum age a person can be while still having access your content.

The default minimum and maximum age ranges will be 18 and 120. If you only want a minimum age limit for you game, and no maximum, you can leave it set at 120. If you only want a maximum age range, you can set the minimum age range to 1.

While this option does enable you some control over the ages of users accessing your game, it doesn't safeguard against people entering false dates of birth to bypass it. In the case of contests where age-restricted prizes could be won, it is advisable to use the terms and conditions to emphasize rules regarding age, and consult your legal representation to ensure you're covered.

The age people enter will be recorded in the user's session, and accessible through the app's Data Collection.
